AI Generated Content and the Death of Ideas

I was going to write a post on this, but this tweet pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject...

What is your opinion? A good thing? A bad thing? Just a new form of creativity? Can it even be called creativity?

Creativity

I'd love to know others' thoughts on this...

I already elaborated on the subject shortly before chat GPT was unleashed, but I like your title image even better than mine! Reminds me of those 1990s illustrated books where the images turned 3d when squinting in a special way.

Just a new thing. The only "bad" thing perhaps is, that we humans kind of believe what we read, hear, see, because "it" exists. We don't do a lot of facts checking when the info is from an unknown source (human/AI). There are new possibilities with AI, perhaps even help to cure diseases, but still.... we need to be responsible and act accordingly.

There will be new. creativity with AI, ideas that you will never have will come to bloom, but still... the responsibility should always be human.

Like every other thing on earth it is good and bad. Only a small percentage of total ideas in a creative work needs to be original for the work to be considered creative. We are not suppose to reinvent the wheel but to add our own spark of genius to it. If the AI plays only an assistive role then its fine.

I totally agree. If it's really just assistive, that's fine... but unfortunately most human beings are inherently lazy and are wont to take shortcuts as often as possible - even at the expense of losing out on improving their own selves. Their loss I guess, but we do need to find some way of preventing new ideas getting buried under avalanches of 'amazing AI content' - otherwise I really do think that creativity as a whole will be increasingly stuck in a cul-de-sac, being held back, and lacking in real progress and insight... endlessly recycling, remixing, and misusing our existing knowledge and art - whilst failing to truly understand or develop it.

I'm curious to see how AI will affect YouTube and video content. Once an AI can produce high quality videos given a prompt, I imagine the internet will become flooded with AI generated videos.

Why spend days planning/filming/editing a video when you could just ask an AI to make it for you in a few minutes?

The only remaining human content will be things like... Lifestyle and entertainment channels. Anything educational/historical/functional/etc. will be AI generated.

Though, we're still pretty far from this point. I don't see us getting to the point of high quality AI video generation for at least another decade.

There are two sides of it. Using an AI will empower human's to be super creative and the AI can potentially generate and provide a ton of idea's, or it can also fine tune the original idea with the pros and cons. Basically, an AI can be a helpful tool for producing an endless idea's.

Using Oneshot or Fewshot techniques, one can easily generate a similar idea. Hence, why not to use the AI to get suggested ideas?

Sorry, there's no reason to think about the death of the idea's as there will be always new ideas and content generated around the world and the AI basically would be lacking them. This is where the Human plus AI collaboration is required and we could potentially leverage and help each other to get better.

I do think as a Support machnism, Ai is critical, but ideas wriiten down have shaped the word and Ai can be programmed to subtily reinvent mankind reality, however there is so much unkmnown yet but time will tell.

Well there are many resources out there ready to be pick and use for any person with a clear vision of them. Creativity It's all about being able to see beyond the surface and finding inspiration in unexpected places whether it's in art, science or technology, people who are creative are the ones who push us forward and help us achieve great things. Someone creative enough can turn a chair into a masterpiece or find new solutions to complex problems. Creativity is not just a talent, tool or specific knowledge, it's a mindset - being curious, open-minded and willing to take risks. As Lex Luthor once said, some people just see an adventure story in War and Peace, while others can find the secrets of the universe in a chewing gum wrapper - AI can be a great door to rediscover our own knowledge.
