Most of the recent work has involved problems left behind by people who have already left the company. The projects include numerous third-party services and various types of databases, and under normal circumstances, they can't run properly. It takes a lot of extra time to get them running and debug them. To be honest, I don't particularly enjoy this kind of work, but at the same time, I’ve realized that complex issues like these are probably beyond what AI can handle.
As I’ve mentioned before, problems involving integration or those that are deeply tied to human factors are likely something that even future AGI/ASI won’t be able to solve, because even humans need some time to understand the context (and sometimes have to guess). This has also made me think about the future direction of IT work in an AI-driven world.
