OpenAI vs Anthropic vs Global API Affiliate: Commission Showdown

I Made a Video About This and My Viewers Had Questions

Alright, so about three weeks ago I uploaded a breakdown on my channel about how creators can actually pull recurring income out of the AI boom. Not by building apps. Not by selling courses. Just by pointing your audience toward the right tools when they're already searching for them. That video popped off — it's currently sitting at around 89,000 views and still climbing, which for my channel of roughly 52,000 subscribers is a really healthy ratio. The algorithm seemed to love it because average view duration cleared seven minutes, and the comment section was packed.
But here's the thing. The comments turned into a warzone almost immediately. Half my viewers were asking whether OpenAI has an affiliate program. The other half wanted to know about Anthropic. And a smaller but very persistent group kept DMing me about a platform called Global API. So I figured, fine — let me actually sit down, compare the numbers properly, and give you a real breakdown. That's what this is.

Why I Even Care About API Affiliate Programs

Before we get into the math, let me explain why this category is fundamentally different from the usual affiliate stuff I promote. Most of you know I've done a ton of Amazon Associates content, software promos, hosting deals — the standard creator income stack. Most of those are one-and-done. Someone clicks your link, they buy, you get a cut, and the relationship ends there.
API affiliate programs work differently. Developers don't buy an API once and walk away. They pay every single month. So if you land a referral in January and that developer keeps their subscription active through December, you earn commission twelve times. That's compounding. It's the same reason I deliberately shifted more of my content strategy toward SaaS and subscription-based tools over the past couple of years. The lifetime value of a single referral is dramatically higher.
I actually talked about this in a recent video where I broke down my revenue mix. Roughly 38% of my affiliate income now comes from recurring programs, up from around 12% two years ago. The shift was intentional, and it tracks with how the AI tools space is structured.
