If you have ever tried downloading a video or song for offline use, you probably know the hassle. Most web-based downloaders are packed with popups, redirection ads, and sketchy download buttons.
On the other hand, command-line tools like yt-dlp and spotDL are super powerful, but running separate commands with long flags every time can get repetitive.
To solve this, I built MediaDl CLI, a terminal tool that combines yt-dlp, spotDL, and FFmpeg into one clean, interactive interface.
What is MediaDl CLI?
MediaDl CLI gives you a simple, distraction-free environment inside your terminal. You just paste a video link or playlist URL, hit download, and let it handle the rest.
Here is what makes it useful:
- 1,800+ Supported Sites: Download videos and music from YouTube, Spotify, TikTok, and hundreds of other platforms.
-
All-in-One Power: It handles both video downloads (via
yt-dlp) and Spotify audio matching (viaspotDL) seamlessly behind the scenes. - 100% Local and Clean: Zero ads, zero popups, and no tracking. Everything runs locally on your machine.
- Terminal UI Features: Includes URL paste support, download history, and built-in theme customization.
Credits and Open Source
Huge credit to the original project: MediaDl CLI is built on top of Yoink (pablostanly/yoinks), originally created by Jaysh Khan. Yoink provided an awesome foundation, which I forked and customized to refine the terminal experience. The project is fully open source under the MIT license.
