You're planning. It's not helping. Here's why. You spend time every Friday organizing your next week. Color-coded calendars. Detailed task lists. Ambitious priorities. By Wednesday, it's useless. Something changed. The plan doesn't match reality.
The planning fallacy: Most people plan based on ideal conditions. You have 8 hours. You can focus. Nothing goes wrong. Reality: 3 meetings appear, your laptop dies, someone needs you urgently.
What actually works: Plan for 3 days not 7. Your plan degrades quickly. A 3-day plan stays relevant longer than a 7-day one. Identify the one thing. What is the single most important outcome of this week? Everything else is bonus. Leave space. If every hour is scheduled, any deviation breaks everything. Leave 20% unscheduled.
The weekly rhythm: Instead of planning everything, try Monday identify the week's one priority. Wednesday review adjust re-commit. Friday log what happened celebrate what shipped. This keeps you aligned without over-planning.
I put together a simple Notion weekly planning system. Three sections: the one thing, the daily MITs, and a weekly review template. Works in 10 minutes a week.
