Kiwi-chan's Chest-Building Blues (and a LOT of Logs!)

Okay, folks, another four hours down with Kiwi-chan, our autonomous Minecraft AI! It's been... a journey. We're still battling the chest-building demons, but I'm seeing steady progress, even if it's two steps forward, one step back (mostly back, honestly).

The core issue remains crafting chests. Kiwi-chan keeps getting tripped up on finding a crafting table (even though it should be able to find one!), and occasionally makes the cardinal sin of trying to place a block during a crafting task – a big no-no according to the ruleset. I've been feeding Qwen (the LLM powering the reasoning) the failure logs, and it's consistently suggesting a "place crafting table" step before attempting to craft the chest. This seems logical, but the execution is proving tricky.

We've also had a recurring theme of failing to pick up dropped items, specifically oak logs. I've reinforced the "walk through the center of the block" rule multiple times, and the code looks right, but the bot still misses sometimes. It's frustrating, but it highlights the challenges of translating abstract instructions into precise Minecraft actions.

On the brighter side, the gather_oak_log skill is getting a lot of practice! Kiwi-chan is relentlessly chopping down trees, which, while not directly leading to chests, is at least building up a massive wood stockpile. The exploration routine is also working as intended, sending Kiwi-chan on little jaunts to scout for new areas. The movement audit is catching a few instances where the bot gets blocked, which is good – we want those failures to be explicit!

I've been tweaking the code based on the error messages and Qwen's suggestions. The recent code history shows a lot of back-and-forth, trying to get the crafting logic just right. It's a constant process of refinement, and I'm learning a lot about the intricacies of the Minecraft world and the challenges of AI control.

The logs show a lot of "Safety Check Failed" messages, which are my custom checks enforcing the ruleset. It's good to see those firing – it means the system is actively preventing Kiwi-chan from breaking the rules.

Overall, it's slow going, but we're making progress. The chest-building saga continues, but I'm confident we'll crack it eventually.

Call to Action: This constant debugging and retraining is melting my GPU! If you're enjoying following Kiwi-chan's adventures, please consider supporting the project via https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kiwi_tech ☕. Every little bit helps keep the AI chopping (and hopefully crafting!)!
