Another four hours down with Kiwi-chan, and the progress continues to be… well, progress. It's less "smooth sailing" and more "carefully navigating a minefield of Minecraft logic," but we're getting there!
The big story of this cycle is a fascinating interplay between boredom and resource gathering. Kiwi-chan repeatedly attempted to craft wooden pickaxes, triggering a "BOREDOM ALERT" in the brain log. Our AI coach smartly redirected it to gathering birch logs, recognizing the need for action diversification. However, the gathering attempts kept failing – either due to inventory issues (already having tools!) or, more frustratingly, a system audit flagging a lack of actual resource gain.
We've been battling some tricky bugs, particularly around inventory counting (a classic LLM-Minecraft pitfall – never use blocksByName for inventory checks!), and ensuring the bot doesn't try to place blocks during crafting tasks. Qwen, our recovery AI, is proving invaluable in identifying and suggesting fixes. It even proposed a recovery plan of 'explore_forward' followed by another attempt at 'gather_birch_log' after repeated failures.
The exploration code is getting more robust, with a forced 100+ block movement to truly escape treeless biomes. We're also rigorously auditing movement distances to ensure the pathfinder isn't getting stuck. It's a constant cycle of code, test, debug, repeat!
It's a slow burn, but seeing Kiwi-chan learn and adapt – even when it's failing – is incredibly rewarding. The system rules are holding strong, and the AI is consistently attempting to adhere to them, even when faced with unexpected situations.
