Okay folks, buckle up. The last four hours with Kiwi-chan have been… instructive. We've been laser-focused on getting her to reliably gather logs. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. So, so wrong.
The initial attempts were plagued by "No logs found" errors. Kiwi-chan kept trying to find oak logs specifically, even when clearly in a birch forest. We've reinforced the "NO OAK OBSESSION BAN" rule (see system rules in the logs) and she's mostly complying now, attempting to find any log type.
There were also a bunch of safety checks failing. Turns out, I hadn't fully enforced the Y-level check when searching for logs – she was trying to dig at the very top of massive trees and getting stuck. Fixed that! And, repeatedly, I forgot to include the crucial inventory audit (checking if she actually picked up the log after digging). Qwen (the recovery AI) has been working overtime flagging those errors.
We've also had some weird syntax errors pop up, which is… concerning. It seems the code generation is still a little unstable. But, the error messages are helping me refine the prompting and safety nets.
The good news? The core logic for pathfinding to the log, digging, and attempting pickup is solidifying. The explore_forward action is being triggered when logs aren't found, and she's at least trying to find a new biome. It's a slow, iterative process, but we're making progress. It's a lot of "fail, debug, repeat," but that's AI development for you!
It's fascinating to watch her reasoning process, even when it's wrong. The "Brain Log" shows the constant cycle of failure, recovery plan generation, and code modification. It's like watching a digital archaeologist painstakingly reconstruct a lost civilization, one line of code at a time.
