Background
I sometimes like to go on road trips to remote areas without a mobile data signal. Therefore, when the Starlink Mini dropped below $300, it popped up on my radar, and when it went down to $239 in fall of 2025, I pulled the trigger (and have found the standby plan sufficient for my needs).
Now it's $149 in the USA, making it even more compelling IMO.
How should you power it
Directly from the starter battery? I'd hesitate because it's physically inconvenient, the voltage is barely above the minimum of 12V, and if you forget to disconnect, it could still drain the starter battery a bit.
What are some good ways to power the Starlink Mini from the car (directly or indirectly)?
These are the products I have for powering the Starlink:
USB-C cable: no longer available, but I would recommend a similar one where the reviews say it works with Starlink, and as short as is still convenient while minimize the voltage drop (mine is 3 m so it can go from the cargo area to the roof mount)
UGREEN USB-C PD 145W power bank: you might wonder about this one, but it works (!) and allows you to untether the Starlink from the car for some time, which is very convenient
If you already have a power station with USB-C PD 100 or higher, that kind of cable I mentioned above lets you plug it in there. The external power bank is optional for the added convenience so the big power station can stay in the car.
