Quick Guide to Building Your IT Portfolio

Creating a portfolio has become essential for IT degree holders these days. However, my personal recommendation is not to spend too much time on this while you're still in college. It might be better to focus on building a comprehensive portfolio after you've started your career, allowing you to showcase a more mature body of work.

If your college has made creating a portfolio mandatory, here are some tips to make the process quick and easy without wasting too much time.

Portfolio Templates
You can easily find portfolio templates from the links below:

https://themewagon.com/theme-tag/portfolio-template/
https://github.com/topics/portfolio-website

You can find many more free portfolio templates with a quick Google search. Once you find a suitable template, you can easily customize it by adding your details and images.

Deploying Your Portfolio
After creating your portfolio site, you'll need to deploy (host) it. Here are some tips for doing this efficiently:

GitHub Pages

You can use the pages feature in your GitHub account to host your portfolio. This way, your portfolio will have a domain name like yourusername.github.io. You can learn how to do this from the YouTube link below:

Vercel

Alternatively, you can host your portfolio site for free on Vercel. Visit the link below to learn more about how to do this:

There are plenty of clear videos on YouTube about these topics, so feel free to explore them.

Getting Your Own Domain
If you'd like to get your own domain name and deploy your portfolio site on your own server, I can provide guidance on how to do it at no cost in the future. Stay tuned for a video that will cover this topic in detail.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions. My opinion is that college students shouldn't spend too much time on this task.

Good luck! 😇
