Music of the Month — What are you listening to? (September Edition 🍂)

cover image source: Cigar Does Art

Hey folks! I'm switching this series up to a once-a-month happening as I've not been making it onto DEV quite as frequently these days, but I still wanna hear y'all's musical suggestions and keep this thing rolling. For the sake of making things easy, I'll be keeping the series name as Music Monday, but just know that my plan is to pop in and share this thing once a month. Can't promise that'll always happen, but I think that cadence is doable for me. So, with that said, what have y'all been listening to recently?

A clip from Earth, Wind, and Fire's music video for

How we do

In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others' suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. 🙌

If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization. If you wanna join the org, just hit me up and lemme know!

Now, let's see what everybody has been tuning into recently!

Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}. This should work for most common platforms!

Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! 🎶

I've gotten really into Tim Heidecker's Office Hours Live podcast recently and in the process, I've been diving into his music too. A lotta folks know him as an off-beat kinda satirist/comedian, which he certainly is, but fewer folks know about his musical pursuits and really, he's fantastic.

Here's a good one for y'all called Well's Running Dry:

Real talk - this is what I have listened to the most this summer (snoop dog's kids album - this song in particular is actually really wonderful though) 😂

But also I think you would enjoy learning about live coding, if you do not know about it already!

I'd been listening a lot of Bird and Byron:

And can you believe this has less than 50 views?

Just came back for "Save It for Later" and I dig this track. It's got a bit of a 90's alternative sound to it and that's def a good thing. It might be a funny thing to call out, but the tambourine really added a nice layer when it came in.

Yeah, it surprises me that not much people appreciate this kind of music.... anyway, if you are into that kind of music, one of the best recommendations I can give is The Lightning Seeds, and you must listen to Pure and Sweet Dreams

Wow! I'm loving "Sunshine Shakedown". This is freaking wonderful! 🌞😎

I'd never listened to Bird & Byron, gonna have to dig into it a little.

Will come back for your second suggestion shortly!

Klangphonics.

They are a German group that makes what I would call "material techno" and sometimes "computerless techno:" they use as basis everyday sources of noise like: saws, vacuum cleaner, washing machines, power tools and other stuff. Clearly techno is a genre that is specially suited for this.

They do also more traditional electronic music, upbeat but not too aggressive. Sometimes I use it if I want to relax.

Super chill! I looked'em up and I totally see what you mean about how they do both traditional techno and techno made from household items.

Been listening to this one this AM and it's pretty dam cool! The scenery in that forest is so beautiful.

Seeing your suggestion for "Do It Again" reminded me that there's an old tune I like called "Do It Again" too.

I recently discovered a channel called "CVRTOON." His music is amazing (at least, I really enjoyed it). I recommend giving it a try. Just head over to the popular section on YouTube and listen to a few tracks. Maybe you'll like it, too!
