I'm building TunnelScope, an MIT-licensed Python CLI for evidence-based MTU and packet-size experiments on Linux.
It runs bounded UDP probes with a cooperating receiver, keeps sender and receiver observations in JSON, and can generate a self-contained HTML report. v0.4.1 is available on PyPI.
TunnelScope is still an alpha tool: a timeout is inconclusive, and the tool does not automatically discover an exact path MTU or prove a root cause. Its probe protocol is unauthenticated, so experiments belong in controlled labs rather than public networks.
Good first issues
- Add Python 3.10 to CI checks — a small GitHub Actions change.
- Show receiver correlation in the README quick start — help new users understand what reached the receiver.
- Document a Windows PowerShell loopback quick start — a documentation task for basic local testing.
If you have a suitable lab, IPv6 routed-path, VPN, and Kubernetes validation would also be valuable. Sanitized results and documentation feedback are welcome; please don't share credentials or private packet captures.
Start with the README and contribution guide. If a task interests you, leave a comment on its issue before opening a PR. I'm happy to answer questions and review contributions.
