I spent the last month creating a complete 20-page AI manga chapter without drawing a single line. Here's the exact workflow, tools, and lessons I learned along the way.
The Problem: AI Characters Keep Changing
If you've ever tried making comics with AI image generators, you know the frustration. You generate a character, love the design, then ask for another panel... and they look completely different. Different hair, different outfit, different face structure. Every. Single. Panel.
This is the number one blocker for AI manga creators. Without character consistency, you can't tell a story.
My Setup: 100% Free, Browser-Based
I didn't want to pay for expensive tools or set up complex Stable Diffusion pipelines. Everything I used runs in the browser:
- pixiaoli.cn — AI manga generator with built-in character consistency
- tools.pixiaoli.cn — Free developer tools (I used the Markdown editor for scripting)
- Gemini — For generating reference images and initial character concepts
That's it. No servers, no paid subscriptions, no complex installations.
Step 1: Script Your Manga
Before generating any images, I wrote out the full script in Markdown. Each page had:
- Panel descriptions (composition, camera angle)
- Character dialogue
- Emotion/action notes
I used the Markdown editor at tools.pixiaoli.cn because it's 100% client-side — my script never leaves my browser. For indie creators who want privacy, this matters.
Step 2: Design Characters with Gemini
Here's a trick I learned: don't write character descriptions yourself. Open a Gemini chat and discuss the design concept first.
I'm creating a sci-fi manga. Design a unique protagonist:
- What makes them instantly recognizable?
- What color palette sets them apart?
- Give me a 150-word description for image generation
Gemini produced far more creative designs than I would have written. Once you have the description, use it as your character reference.
Step 3: Generate with Character Consistency
This is where pixiaoli.cn comes in. Unlike generic AI image generators, it's specifically designed for manga creation with character memory.
The key features:
- Character profiles — Define your character once, and the AI remembers their appearance
- Panel-by-panel generation — Generate each panel while maintaining consistency
- Style locking — Keep the art style uniform across the entire chapter
I generated each panel individually, checking that the character's hair, outfit, and facial features stayed consistent.
Step 4: Assembly and Polish
I assembled the panels in a free tool and added speech bubbles. The whole process took about 3 hours for a 10-page chapter.
Results
The character stayed consistent across all panels. Not perfect — AI still makes mistakes — but 90% consistent, which is a huge improvement over using generic tools.
Lessons Learned
- Start with a detailed script — AI works better when you give it specific instructions
- Design characters through discussion, not prompts — Let the AI help you design
- Generate one panel at a time — Batch generation loses consistency
- Use character reference sheets — Generate a front/side/back view first
- Keep your workflow simple — Browser-based tools are surprisingly capable
Try It Yourself
If you want to create AI manga without drawing skills:
- Write your script at tools.pixiaoli.cn (Markdown editor)
- Design characters at pixiaoli.cn
- Generate panel by panel
- Assemble and publish
The barrier to manga creation has never been lower. You don't need to draw — you need to tell a good story and let AI handle the visuals.
