I tracked my SaaS numbers in a spreadsheet I was afraid to open. So I built the simpler read.

There's a special dread to opening the finance tab when you know the formulas are held together with hope and a VLOOKUP you wrote at 1am. For a solo founder, "do the books" isn't a task — it's a wall you walk into once a month and bounce off of.

SubMetrics takes your subscription numbers and turns them into the metrics that actually matter for a small SaaS: MRR and its growth rate, ARPU and LTV, and churn and retention. The math is the boring, deterministic part — these are definitions, not judgements, and the tool computes them the way the textbook says. Where a model helps is the last layer: a plain-English read on what's moving, so you get "your churn ticked up but new MRR covered it" instead of staring at two lines and guessing which one is the story.

It's built for solo founders and small teams who don't want a BI dashboard with eleven filters. Paste the numbers, get the read.

Where AI does belong

The calculations don't need a model — MRR, ARPU, churn and LTV are arithmetic, and a model doing arithmetic is just a slower, less reliable calculator. The place a model earns its keep is the diagnosis: reading the computed numbers and writing down, in plain English, what changed and what's worth your attention. That's a translation job, not a math job, and it's the kind of open-ended phrasing a model is actually good at.

What it deliberately does not do

  • No forecast or guarantee. It reads the numbers you paste and explains what they say today. It does not predict next quarter, and it won't tell you your churn will improve if you change one thing.
  • No connection to your payment processor. You paste the figures. If the input is wrong or stale, the read reflects that — it has no way to know the real number behind a typo.
  • No replacement for an accountant at tax time. The metrics are operating signals for running the business, not filings.

The honest line: SubMetrics tells you what your numbers are and what they mean in plain words. Whether that's good news is up to the business, not the tool.

SubMetrics is $19/mo. Paste your subscription numbers and read the diagnosis.
