A Google Camera (GCam) port is a modified build of Google's Pixel camera app that runs on other Android phones. Because every chipset and camera driver differs, ports come in many versions. An XML config is a small settings file that stores tuning such as HDR+ values, saturation, noise reduction and sharpening, so you can apply a ready-made look instead of adjusting everything by hand.
What you need
- An Android phone with Camera2 API enabled
- A GCam APK that matches your chipset (Snapdragon, Exynos or Dimensity)
- An XML config file made for that build
Steps
- Download the GCam APK to your phone.
- Open the file. When Android asks, allow Install unknown apps for your browser or file manager.
- Install the APK, then open the app once and grant camera, storage and microphone permissions.
- Close the app. In your file manager, create a folder named after the build, for example
LMC8.4, in internal storage. Create aConfigsfolder inside it if the app has not already made one. - Copy the XML config into that folder.
- Open the camera app and double-tap the empty area beside the shutter button.
- Pick your config from the list and tap Restore.
- Fully close the app and reopen it so the settings load.
Troubleshooting
- The app crashes on launch: you probably installed a build for the wrong chipset. Try another version made for your processor family, and clear the app's storage before reinstalling.
- The config list is empty: check the folder name and path. Some builds look in a different directory, so match what your version expects.
- Photos look too dark or oversaturated: the config was tuned for another sensor. Try a different one.
- Camera won't open at all: confirm that Camera2 API is supported on your phone.
Always keep your original camera app as a fallback.
