1.1 Executive Summary

The dynamic nature of Artificial Intelligence (AI) leads to the frequent emergence of new concepts and terminologies, necessitating translations across languages. However, literal translations often fail to convey accurate meanings, posing challenges for communication. Our project aims to address this by developing an online AI translating platform. This platform will enable registered users to submit inquiries and suggestions for translating specific terms into other languages. Community voting will then determine the most suitable translations for widespread adoption. By facilitating accurate translations, our platform will enhance global collaboration among AI experts and users.

1.2 Project Motivation

Given AI's dynamic and continually evolving nature, fresh concepts and terminologies emerge regularly (Fisher, 2023). Frequently, there arises a necessity to translate terms from one language to another, presenting a challenge as literal translations may fail to convey the intended meaning accurately and could lead to awkward interpretations. A proficient translation not only preserves the essence of the term but also ensures phonetic harmony. Therefore, identifying the most fitting translation demands a blend of AI expertise and linguistic proficiency.

Conventional translation methods, such as those used by Google Translate and other dictionaries, often fall short of accurately conveying the nuanced meanings of AI terms. Our testing has revealed that some AI terms, particularly newly emerged ones, are not accurately translated through these methods. These dictionaries do not specialize in AI term translation, and therefore may not capture the precise context or significance of these terms.

Existing translation platforms lack versatility, providing only basic translation functions without additional features to enhance the process. Additionally, searching for AI term translations on web pages can be time-consuming and may not yield satisfactory results. Moreover, there is currently no specialized platform for language-proficient AI experts to share their insights into AI term translations, resulting in some degree of wasted resources.

Currently, no platform effectively integrates AI expertise with linguistic proficiency, impeding effective communication and knowledge sharing within the global AI community. To bridge this gap, we propose the development of a comprehensive website dedicated to AI term translation. This platform will streamline the translation process while fostering collaboration among users with AI expertise and linguistic proficiency. By centralizing AI term translation queries and leveraging the collective expertise of users, our platform aims to provide timely and accurate translations.

1.3 Project Activities

Based on the challenges currently faced and identified market gaps, our business vision centers around the creation of a comprehensive, precise, and user-friendly web-based platform (Lawless & Civille, 2013). This platform aims to welcome individuals from all corners of the AI community, irrespective of their specific domains or roles, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing to address the global needs of the AI industry.

In pursuit of this vision, our strategy revolves around the development of a 'Multi-language Collaborative Dictionary', which means that:

  1. All content is human-generated.
  2. Our platform advocates a culture of collaboration, being totally community-based.
  3. An upvoting system is applied to highlight high-quality contributions (Yablonsky, 2018).

We call this platform ALC – AI Lexicon Community.

ALC is an innovative web-based software application dedicated to enhancing the translation of technical terms in artificial intelligence. ALC will serve as a community-based translation platform, allowing users to submit translation queries and posts. Upon receiving queries, ALC will parse and store text fields into a custom data structure within its database management system.

Unlike platforms that utilize AI technologies for translation, ALC relies entirely on human contributions. All content is uploaded and translated by human contributors, emphasizing its community-driven approach to translation. The platform will offer an intuitive user interface with customizable colour modes/themes for enhanced user-friendliness and accessibility.

Users will receive daily recommendations and editor's picks, highlighting valuable translations and fostering community engagement. ALC will also provide a graphical user interface displaying potential translation errors and supporting evidence for translation suggestions, empowering users to make informed decisions. Furthermore, users can mark translation queries as resolved to minimize false diagnoses of translation inaccuracies.

By adhering to these principles and leveraging the collective expertise of the AI community, ALC aims to establish itself as the premier destination for accurate and accessible AI terminology translations. This strategic approach not only addresses the current market gaps but also positions ALC as a vital resource for driving innovation and advancement within the global AI industry.
