Anthropic reported this week that its Claude models — the Mythos Preview and Opus 4.8 — ran an autonomous protein-design campaign, producing 354 confirmed binders from 1,320 designs across fifteen targets, with no human scientist guiding the work while it ran. The hit rates reached 26.7% and 22.6% over a brutal 48-hour session; on single targets, Mythos climbed to 35.1%. The industry, with its PhDs and its decades, typically manages 10 to 15 percent.

Two independent laboratories — Adaptyv Bio and Twist Bioscience — grew the machine's proteins and tested them. They bound. The AI did not merely describe biology. It reached into it.
