Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.

#ai

We've all heard the first part of the famous quote, but very few have heard it complete.

"Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one."

The quote comes from Robert Greene in 1592 referring Shakespeare.

Yes, you read it correct. Shakespeare...

The full quote changes the way you look at it. The way it's comprehended.

It doesn't affect the value of a TRUE master. But it do tell us one thing, being a generalist is not a bad thing.

If I want to back it with some proof. I'll mention the 80/20 rule. A simple rule which states:

"80% of any system is affected by just 20% (or 30%) of system variables."

What does it mean?
It means that, wherever you look...

80% of the time, you're using just 20% of something.

It's truly insane.

The 80/20 rule, surely, is simple. Yet, it's easy to miscomprehend it.

I'm writing an article explaining the rule, if you've any GENUINE thoughts on the 80/20 rule, drop them in the comments.

It'll be a great help.
