I Ranked X Videos by Repost Rate Instead of Views. The Lists Barely Overlap.
Every ranking of X video posts I have seen sorts by views. So I sorted by repost rate instead — reposts divided by views — and after pulling 39 public video posts on October 7, 2026 and running both rankings side by side, the two lists have almost nothing in common.
The spread is the first clue
Repost rate across the 39 posts runs from 1.06 percent at the top to 0.009 percent at the bottom — a factor of about 115 between the best and worst. View counts across the same set span a far narrower range, and the middle is dense with posts of similar reach.
Reach is compressed. Repost rate is not. That alone is a reason to sort by it.
The top of the list, and it is short
1.06 percent. 9.1 seconds, 441 thousand views.

0.60 percent. 19.2 seconds, 341 thousand views.

0.32 percent. 5.3 seconds, 786 thousand views, and the shortest clip in the top ten.

0.26 percent. 9.2 seconds.

0.25 percent. 79 seconds, the only long entry in the top five.
https://x.com/NFL/status/2107255765958639999
0.23 percent. 26 seconds, only 18 thousand views — the smallest post in the top ten by reach, still beating most of the list on forwarding.

0.23 percent. 27.5 seconds, 443 thousand views.

0.20 percent. 36 seconds.

0.18 percent. 60 seconds, 740 thousand views.

0.16 percent. 27.4 seconds.

The mismatch that makes the point
Two posts, near-identical reach, and the repost rates are not remotely close.
One has 786,334 views and a repost rate of 0.317 percent.
https://x.com/NFL/status/2107580068591747540
The other has 750,736 views and a repost rate of 0.013 percent.
https://x.com/ESPN/status/2107308566306513164
The second has four percent more views and roughly a twenty-fourth of the repost rate. And at the bottom of the full list, an account drew 183 thousand views and produced a repost rate of 0.009 percent — seen by a very large number of people and passed on by almost none of them.
Why this metric is the one to watch
A view is close to a passive event. It can be produced by placement, by a feed decision, by someone stopping for two seconds before scrolling on — it measures exposure the poster did not have to earn from the audience.
A repost is deliberate. It costs the person their own timeline and their followers' attention, and it is the closest thing this platform has to a vote that the content was worth somebody else's audience.
A ranking by views tells you what is being shown. A ranking by repost rate tells you what is being passed on. Only the second is a signal you can act on.
Method
39 public video posts, pulled October 7, 2026. Repost rate is reposts divided by views, both as displayed at pull time. Raw totals, not week-over-week, and not normalized by account size.
