Google is extending advertising inside its AI-powered Search to markets outside the U.S., TechCrunch reports. The company announced it on Wednesday during Alphabet's third-quarter earnings call. Chief business officer Philipp Schindler described it as the first time Google's monetization of these experiences goes global. Multi-turn ads are arriving in the U.S. at the same time.
Why Google is doing this now
Alphabet reported $127.6 billion in quarterly revenue, up 25% year over year, and its shares fell 8% after the results. The pressure point was Search: Google Search revenue grew 12%, down from 17% in the second quarter and 19% in the first. Putting ads into AI-generated answers is Google's way of turning heavier use of its AI features into advertising income.
What Google says about performance
Schindler told investors that click-through rates on sponsored product listings in AI Mode are already comparable to those on organic listings. Google's own user research also suggests people find the ads relevant. Both statements come from the company, and the source offers no independent data or advertiser results.
The expansion builds on formats Google announced in May: Gemini-powered conversational discovery ads that respond to a user's questions, and sponsored recommendations placed inside AI-generated answers.
How people search in AI Mode
Sundar Pichai gave several usage figures that show why advertisers are watching:
- Queries in AI Mode run about three times longer than traditional searches.
- One in five AI Mode searches worldwide involves voice, images or documents.
- Google now handles more than 50 billion visual searches a month.
- Overall Search queries grew at their fastest year-over-year pace in five years, though Pichai did not give the rate.
Google Services, the division that includes Search, brought in $96.3 billion, up 11%. Google Cloud revenue rose 103% to $30.7 billion.
What is not in the announcement
The source does not list the international markets, give a rollout schedule, or say how advertisers will buy or control placement in AI Mode. It also gives no pricing. Those details will decide how much of this reaches smaller B2B advertisers, and they are unconfirmed for now.
