TIL: GBase Database Silent Installation Requires License Acceptance

Today, I ran a silent installation of GBase Database(GBase 8s), only to have it fail on the first attempt. The cause? The license acceptance parameter was missing.

It is a small configuration detail, but it can stop an unattended installation before deployment gets anywhere.

Why Does License Acceptance Matter?

Unlike an interactive installation, silent installation has no graphical prompt where an operator can review and accept the license during execution. The required acceptance must be provided explicitly through the supported installation parameters.

For a GBase Database(GBase 8s) silent installation, the response file may contain:

LICENSE_ACCEPTED = TRUE
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Alternatively, you can pass the parameter directly in the installation command:

./ids_install -i silent \
  -f /opt/bundle.properties \
  -DLICENSE_ACCEPTED=TRUE
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Confirm the exact parameter name and syntax against the documentation for your installation package, and make sure the applicable license terms have actually been reviewed and accepted before setting the value to TRUE.

Make It Part of Your Deployment Standard

When deploying GBase Database across multiple servers, a missing parameter can cause repeated failures and unnecessary troubleshooting.

To avoid this:

  • Include the required license-acceptance setting in your response file template.
  • Validate the response file before running a batch deployment.
  • Test the complete installation procedure on one machine first.
  • Check the installer logs and exit status rather than assuming the installation succeeded.

The broader lesson goes beyond licensing: every confirmation required by an interactive installation must be handled explicitly in an unattended workflow.

For reliable GBase Database deployment automation, small prerequisites deserve the same attention as installation paths, component selection, and post-installation configuration.

Have you ever lost time debugging a silent installation because of one missing parameter?
