Master the Logic Gap to Write Unstoppable Video Scripts

Ever wonder why viewers drop off 15 seconds into your pristine, 4K tech review? It’s not your lighting or your cuts. It’s your copy.

Enter the Logic Gap.

The Logic Gap is a psychological copywriting framework that forces a viewer's brain to freeze and pay attention. Instead of delivering a straightforward premise, you state two facts that seem logically incompatible. Because the human brain craves closure, the viewer must keep watching to bridge the gap.

Here is the basic formula:

[Established Norm] + [Contradictory Reality] = Logic Gap

Most tech creators state obvious facts: "The M3 MacBook Air has no fan, so it thermal throttles under heavy load."

Boring. Everyone knows that.

A Logic Gap reframes it to break expectation: "Apple’s fanless $1,000 MacBook Air just outpaced a $3,000 Mac Studio—and it’s all because of a flaw Apple refuses to fix."

Wait, what? How does a cheaper, fanless laptop beat a desktop workstation? What’s the flaw? Your viewer's internal logic is broken, and they need you to fix it.

Here’s another example for a coding or desk setup channel:

  • Standard Hook: "Why I swapped my ultra-wide monitor for two vertical displays."
  • Logic Gap: "Adding a second monitor actually made me 20% less productive—until I turned it completely upside down."

To implement this in your next video:

  1. Find the Paradox: What part of your test results, specs, or workflow defies common sense?
  2. State the Contradiction: Put the normal expectation right next to the weird outcome.
  3. Delay the Answer: Don't resolve the gap in the intro. Deliver the missing logic mid-video after delivering real value.

Stop summarizing your tech videos. Start creating logic puzzles your audience can't resist solving.
