How We Built a 38ms Code Execution Engine & 31ms DB Branching Substrate (7 Titans & AWS Receipts)

Autonomous AI reasoning agents, prompt-to-app builders, and high-throughput online assessment platforms share a common fatal flaw: heavyweight container orchestration overhead.

When evaluating multi-testcase batches or multi-step reasoning rollouts, standard sequential runners (Docker, Judge0, gVisor) spend 80% of their wall-clock time waiting on OS fork-exec, namespace initialization, cgroup pacing, and disk flushes. Evaluating 50 test cases sequentially routinely takes 3 to 5 seconds per submission.

Over the past year, we designed, built, and physically benchmarked the CIEL Sovereign Infrastructure Stack—a unified 7-Titan architecture designed to eliminate container and database latency taxes on bare silicon.

🏆 Dual-Hardware Physical Benchmark Receipts (AWS Mumbai ap-south-1b)

We deployed and benchmarked the entire platform on physical AWS EC2 bare-metal-equivalent instances:

  • Host 1 (AMD64): c8i.large (Intel Xeon 6975P-C @ 3.8 GHz Turbo, 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, Linux 7.0.0-1014-aws)
  • Host 2 (ARM64): c8g.large (AWS Graviton4 Neoverse-V2 @ 2.6 GHz, 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, Linux 7.0.0-1014-aws)
Subsystem / Titan Benchmark Metric Intel Xeon 6 (AMD64) AWS Graviton4 (ARM64) Winner Hardware Root Cause
Eschaton 50 Testcases Batch Fan-Out 38.2 ms 41.5 ms AMD64 (70x vs Judge0) Bare-metal parallel worker fan-out vs sequential Docker
Thanaton Python 1M Sum MicroVM 32.74 ms 39.96 ms AMD64 (+18.1%) Raw single-thread interpreter cycle throughput
Mnemon-DB 12 PostgreSQL Reflink Clusters 50.81 ms 31.67 ms ARM64 (+37.7%) XFS extent allocation concurrency on NVMe
Hyperion Task Dispatch Throughput 5,290,366 tasks/s 3,052,964 tasks/s AMD64 (+42.3%) SCX eBPF ring buffer enqueue loop latency
Hyperion NVMe I/O QoS Clamping 17 µs (96% drop) 17 µs (96% drop) Parity Clamps rogue noisy-neighbor I/O from 3,850 µs to 155 µs
Kronos Hardware Virtual Clock 36.42M ticks/s (27ns) 22.31M ticks/s AMD64 (+63.2%) Native x86 hardware RDTSC instruction
Acheron Stream Compression 3,631.2 MB/s (Snappy) 4,870.6 MB/s (LZ4) ARM64 (+274.4%) ARM NEON vector instruction throughput
Lethe DuckDB Columnar OLAP on xNVMe 177.5M rows/s 276.9M rows/s (2.06 GB/s) ARM64 (+56.0%) Graviton4 DDR5 memory bandwidth & vector registers
Lethe S3Pipe Zero-Copy Streaming 232.64 MB/s 339.08 MB/s ARM64 (+45.7%) Direct network DMA to memory bus

FinOps Verdict: At $0.05398/hr vs $0.09371/hr (42.4% lower cost), Graviton4 delivers higher work-per-dollar across 17 out of 19 micro-products and 6 out of 7 Titans.

🛡️ Battle-Tested in Production for 100+ Days

This is not a theoretical whitepaper or toy hobby project. This infrastructure is the battle-tested internal substrate of Eduniketan Pvt Ltd (TheEduCode), running live in continuous production for 100+ days:

  • Reduced Cloud Bills to 1/3rd: Slashed physical compute, memory, and container orchestration spending by 67%.
  • Tripled Output Capacity: Scaled to 3x concurrent throughput across heavy campus placement examination spikes, automated code grading, and multi-tenant student sandboxes.

⚡ The 7 Sovereign Titans

1. Eschaton (Bare-Metal Code Execution Engine)

  • 100% Drop-In Judge0 Parity: Exposes the identical /submissions and /submissions/batch REST contract. Change JUDGE0_URL in your .env and it works instantly without touching frontend or scoring logic.
  • Apex Parallel Fan-Out: Compiles once on bare silicon, then evaluates 50 test cases simultaneously in 38 milliseconds (vs 3,200ms in Docker/Judge0 sequential batches).
  • Sub-0.8ms Early Exit: Traps Wrong Answers immediately and terminates in microseconds.

2. Thanaton (Hardware-Isolated MicroVMs)

  • Sub-millisecond cold start microVMs with strict Linux cgroups v2, seccomp filters, and AF_XDP kernel-bypass networking.
  • Scales to zero ($0 idle RAM cost) via NVMe memory snapshotting with sub-2ms Userfaultfd wake-up.

3. Mnemon-DB (Zero-Copy Branching Database)

  • 12 PostgreSQL Reflink clusters forked in 31.67ms on NVMe using XFS copy-on-write.
  • Instantaneous database snapshotting and rollbacks for multi-step AI reasoning and integration testing.

4. Hyperion (eBPF CPU Scheduler & I/O Arbiter)

  • 5.29M tasks/sec dispatch throughput.
  • Real-time NVMe I/O QoS arbiter that clamps rogue noisy-neighbor I/O from 3,850 µs down to 155 µs in 17 µs.

5. Kronos (Deterministic Time Virtualization)

  • Hardware-backed virtual time at 36.42M ticks/sec (27.4ns resolution) using native x86 RDTSC.
  • Multiverse state forking at 60,691 forks/sec (16.48 µs per fork).

6. Acheron (Decoupled Stream Fabric & Roaming)

  • 4.87 GB/s LZ4 stream compression utilizing ARM NEON vector instructions.
  • Sub-microsecond (0.90 µs) zero-downtime socket roaming across process lifecycles.

7. Lethe (High-Throughput Analytics & Direct S3 Streaming)

  • 276.9 Million rows/sec (2.06 GB/s) DuckDB columnar OLAP query directly over raw NVMe block devices.
  • S3Pipe direct network-to-memory streaming at 339 MB/s with zero intermediate disk buffering.
