USMLE Introduces New Online Accommodation Request System
The USMLE program has officially moved its accommodation request process to an online platform. From June 2026 onward, candidates applying for testing accommodations for USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3 must submit their requests through the MyUSMLE Portal. This update applies to all examinees, including International Medical Graduates (IMGs). The criteria for approval, required documents, and review timelines have not changed.
What's New?
Previously, candidates had to send accommodation requests through email or fax. Under the new process, all requests must be filed online via the MyUSMLE Portal. This updated system offers a more convenient way to submit documents, track application progress, and manage accommodation requests from a single dashboard.
Who Needs to Use the New System?
US Medical Graduates (USMGs) can log in using their current MyUSMLE credentials.
International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must first create a MyUSMLE account.
Candidates with accommodation requests already in progress are not required to submit a new application, as their existing requests have been transferred automatically to the portal.
Steps to Submit an Accommodation Request
- Access your MyUSMLE account or register for a new one.
- Collect electronic versions of all necessary supporting documents.
- Upload the required files through the portal.
- Fill out the accommodation request application.
- Submit the request and wait for the review decision.
All requests will continue to be evaluated by NBME Disability Services, and the review process is expected to take around 60 business days.
Available Request Categories
The MyUSMLE Portal currently supports the following request types:
First-Time Accommodation Request
Subsequent Accommodation Request
Reconsideration Request
Submission of Additional Supporting Documents
Every accommodation-related submission must now be processed through the MyUSMLE Portal.
Important Note
Candidates seeking accommodations should begin the process well in advance of their planned exam date. Since evaluations can require up to 60 business days, waiting until the last minute may impact scheduling plans. Early submission is strongly recommended to avoid unnecessary delays.
Key Takeaway
The new MyUSMLE Portal streamlines the accommodation request process by providing a centralized online platform for applications and status tracking. While the method of submission has been updated, all existing accommodation policies, documentation requirements, and review procedures remain unchanged. Candidates should create their portal accounts early and submit requests promptly to ensure a smooth testing experience.
