It's an endless racer, so technically players could stare at one road forever and the game would still "work." But 20 hand-painted backdrops later, I think it mattered. Pine forests, cherry blossoms, northern lights — small visual variety turned out to change how long people actually stay in a run.
Curious if other devs have data on this: does environmental variety measurably affect retention in endless-runner genres, or is it just a nice-to-have?
