Claude Personal Finance: Your AI Can Now Read Your Bank Account
Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on 5 November 2026 — a beta that links your bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and answers questions about your money in plain English. Ask "Where did my money go this month?" and Claude adds up spending across every connected account, sorted by category.
What it does
Beyond spending summaries, it analyses transactions across your accounts to flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and bills that keep creeping up. It can answer broader questions — are you spending more than you earn? — and explain concepts like APR while showing how much interest you have actually paid over the past year.
What Claude can see — and what it can't
Anthropic publishes the exact list, and it is deliberately short: bank name, account name and type, the last four digits, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. For investment, loan and card accounts it reads balances and limits only — not holdings or trades. Only US banks can be linked, and you can connect up to 16 banks.
Access is read-only: Personal Finance "can't move, manage, or invest your money." It cannot transfer funds, pay bills or buy investments, and it is not designed to give investment advice.
Pricing and availability
There is no extra charge, but it requires a paid plan — Pro ($20/month), Max ($100/month) or Ultra ($200/month) — and is US-only during the beta. It is not on Free, Team or Enterprise plans, and the rollout is gradual, so eligible subscribers may not see it on day one.
Claude vs ChatGPT
OpenAI got here first: ChatGPT introduced similar finance tools in May 2026, also built on Plaid. The core idea is identical. Claude's pitch is trust — no ads or sponsored recommendations, no credit cards or loans of its own to sell you, and Personal Finance chats are not used to train Anthropic's models. The business model is the subscription, not referrals.
The honest caveats
Anthropic warns that figures can lag behind your bank and linked accounts can occasionally double-count. Ask Claude which transactions sit behind any number it gives you, and check important figures with your bank. Financial details can also stay in chats, artifacts and shared links until you delete them — so don't share a Personal Finance conversation.
My advice: link one account first — a single credit card — and try it for a month before connecting everything.
Verdict
For US subscribers on a paid plan, this is a genuinely useful tool at no extra cost, and one of the more trustworthy ways to let an AI look at your money. For everyone else, it is one to watch: US-only, paid-only, and still a beta. ChatGPT reaches more people today; Claude's bet is that trust wins.
