If you're heating with gas in Germany, you already know what's coming. The CO2 price keeps rising, and energy companies pass it straight to you.

Here's the thing: most people are still with their Grundversorger (the default local utility). The Grundversorgungstarif is almost always the most expensive option. Simply switching to any other provider saves 20-40%.
The CO2 surcharge (BEHG) is currently around 1 cent per kWh. For a family using 15,000 kWh/year, that's 150 euros just from CO2. You can't avoid it. But you CAN reduce the base price and Arbeitspreis around it.
Price guarantee matters. Check if yours covers tax increases and CO2 surcharges. Some have a loophole where they guarantee the price but not government-imposed fees.
If your provider announced a price increase, you have Sonderkündigungsrecht (special cancellation right). Use it within 2 weeks. Don't wait.
