Why is every Ubuntu release named after animals?

This quirky tradition was started by Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Ubuntu, as a way to give each release a memorable and fun name. The code names are chosen to reflect the qualities the developers want in that release. For example, "Lucid Lynx" was meant to be fast and agile like a lynx, while "Precise Pangolin" was focused on precision and reliability.
These code names are often more recognizable than the version numbers, adding a playful touch to the serious work behind each release.
