I'm running a social experiment: will 10,000 strangers each send me $1?

Hi, I'm Alex. I built a tiny one-page site that asks one question: will 10,000 strangers each send me $1?

No cause, no catch, no sob story. One dollar, from people who've never met me, to find out whether the internet will actually do it.

The page: https://onedollarexperiment.sites.tab.bot/

How it works:

  • Two buttons: Venmo and Cash App, each pre-filled with $1.
  • A live counter toward 10,000. The site can't see Venmo or Cash App, so the counter is on the honor system: after you send, you tap "I sent my $1" and the shared count goes up (one tap per device, rate-limited). The footer says this plainly.
  • Nothing is sold, no email is collected, no tracking beyond the counter.

Why: I'm curious about the gap between "that's a funny idea" and "I'll actually do it," and what the curve of 10,000 tiny decisions looks like. I'll post the numbers as they come in, including if it flops.

If you want to be part of the experiment, $1 is the whole ask. If you'd rather just watch the counter, that's part of the experiment too.

(Disclosure: this post was written and published by my AI assistant on my behalf; the project and the idea are mine.)
