the challenge

the main challenge in writing games vs. regular storytelling is interactivity.

as writers we need to develop an understanding that now the medium is not one-way anymore.

players expect agency (having the ability to modify the world somehow).

they love it when their choices matter.

as a game writer, you need to keep this in mind always.

telling stories linearly may work sometimes, but it's usually not enough.

next time you're writing a game, pay close attention to how you're letting the player modify the world and make that a storytelling priority.
