I work in operations, so I'm always paying attention to whats being used - and how. And an issue that I kept seeing is we're paying good money (and a lot of it) for AI subscriptions and some people are using it really well... then there's people like me who use it mostly for reviewing my texts and writing scripts for financial stuff.
The first time our data analyst asked me for my Codex password, I gave it knowing I have authentication turned on. Then a week later one of our developers wanted it, and all of a sudden half the office knew my AI software passwords and were begging for me to authenticate them for them to use my tokens. Sure, I could have made an API key, sure I could have upgraded their already expensive AI subscriptions, but instead we started thinking about what we can do to share something in the safest way possible.
At the same time with budget cuts, we started thinking about project management software for AI agents, without the HUGE costs and we came to one decision.
Move the task, not the account passwords
This way the capacity is distributed. Not only do we now see that developers that were consistenly working overtime now going home after they finish their 8 hours, but everyone in the office is working and enjoying it.
So since people already have access to the repository, we just moved who completes the task, instead of who has the password.
