The problem
Every time I need to choose something (a bank, a project management tool, a streaming service, a country to visit) I end up down the same rabbit hole.
Search engines give me sponsored results. Forum threads are 3 years old and say "it depends." Review sites feel like whoever pays more gets ranked higher. AI gives me different answers every time I ask.
There's no single place where regular people say "this is the best" and you can actually trust it.
So I built one: peakd.io
What it is
A community-powered ranking platform for everything. Products, services, companies, countries, restaurants, streaming platforms, banks, universities. All ranked by real people using a 1-10 scale.
Think of it like a community-maintained encyclopaedia of "what's actually good." Anyone can add entries, rate things, and edit pages. The community decides what's #1, not advertisers.
How it works
- Rate anything 1-10 on overall quality and specific aspects (like ease of use, value for money, performance)
- Rankings update live as votes come in
- Companies can't pay for position. They can claim their page and get analytics, but rankings belong to the community.
- Compare anything head-to-head. Pick 2-4 things and see them side by side with scores on every aspect.
- Confidence scoring means one person giving a 10 doesn't make something #1. You need real volume behind it.
Why it's different
Most ranking and review sites have the same fundamental flaw: the companies being ranked have too much control over the narrative. Some charge tens of thousands a year for premium visibility. Others let businesses flag, hide, or bury negative feedback. Many only cover one niche (software, or entertainment, or hardware specs) and ignore everything else.
Peakd is built on one principle:
Rankings belong to the community, not the subjects of those rankings.
Companies can claim their page, respond to feedback, and see analytics. But they cannot move their position up by a single spot through payment. The only way to rank higher is to genuinely be rated higher by real users.
Features that make this work
Precision ratings (1-10 sliders, not stars)
Most sites give you thumbs up/down or rigid 5-star ratings. On Peakd, you rate 1-10 on a smooth slider. Overall and on individual aspects like Ease of Use, Value for Money, Performance, Customer Support. A 7 and an 8 mean different things. You can express exactly what you think.
Per-aspect breakdowns
Don't just see an overall score. See that a product scores 9/10 on performance but 4/10 on customer support. This is the detail that actually helps you decide.
Trust-weighted voting
Not all votes count equally. New accounts carry less weight. Long-standing contributors who vote consistently across many entities build trust and their votes influence rankings more. This prevents brigading, fake reviews, and manipulation.
Confidence scoring (Bayesian)
A product with one 10/10 vote doesn't outrank something with 200 votes averaging 8.5. The system requires volume behind a score before it can claim top position. This is why you might see a 9.0 ranked below an 8.6. The 8.6 has real consensus behind it.
Head-to-head comparisons (up to 4)
Pick 2-4 things and see them side by side. Scores on every aspect, pros/cons, specs, community sentiment. No more opening 6 tabs to compare alternatives.
Auto-generated "Best X" pages
Every category has a live leaderboard: "Best Project Management Tools," "Best Banks in the UK," "Best Countries for Remote Workers." These pages update in real-time as votes come in. Always current, never a static article from 2 years ago.
Community-maintained data
Anyone can edit entity pages, add information, submit new entries, suggest corrections. Edits go through community review (a dynamic number of upvotes based on community size = approved). Companies that claim their page can manage their own content directly, but can never control ratings, reviews, or ranking position.
Everything ranked, not just one niche
Dev tools, banks, countries, airlines, streaming services, universities, restaurants, crypto exchanges, skincare brands, car manufacturers. 240 categories across every industry. If people compare it, it belongs here.
Public contributor profile (or private, your choice)
Every rating and contribution builds your profile: a public track record of your domain expertise. Your trust score grows, your contributor rank climbs, and the community can see what you know about. It's your reputation as someone who helps others make better decisions. Prefer privacy? Switch to private mode and your activity is hidden from everyone.

Peakd is completely free to use. Rate, compare, submit, discuss, build your profile, follow categories, create lists. All of it. No paywall, no premium tier, no "unlock more features." You contribute your opinions and in return you get access to the collective knowledge of everyone else's ratings and rankings. The more people participate, the more accurate and useful the rankings become for everyone.
We make money from businesses (claimed pages and ads), never from users.
