Artificial Intelligence in Education

In recent years the development of technology and science has forced rapid change and development among our world. It changes how the world works and, more importantly, what is required to succeed in the modern world. Unlike technology, education has remained primarily stagnant, seeing little to no change among a majority of the systems in place. The recent pandemic did push progress forward with students' work involving technology more often, however, there is still an extremely large gap between where education is and where it could be. Education currently puts major strain on the students, with more mental health issues developing among students, major strain on teachers, with the lack of resources available for them to help all students, and major strain on society, with the future generations being less prepared to handle the world coming out of schooling. With the implementation of artificial intelligence into the current education system, there could be major improvements to teaching and learning, solving many of the problems that exist currently. AI solutions utilized in education can provide aid to teachers in many daily tasks, provide students with more personalized learning experiences, and provide society a more apt and able bodied generation of people.

Artificial intelligence helps aid students in many ways that can improve their life while at school, as well as when outside of school. Artificial intelligence utilized in tandem with the curriculum taught at schools could greatly improve all aspects of students' lives. Artificial intelligence in education can provide an adaptive learning environment, providing each student with the right tools they may need to succeed, while still maintaining a specific teaching style taught by the teacher. With a tailored style for students in mind, improving the work efficiency would result in a decrease of stress and reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. It will also help improve students' success within the classroom, while also making them generally feel more positive about themselves and the education that they receive. Encouraging students to learn and be happy with what they learned, instead of feeling overwhelmed and stressed, will solve many of the problems that students are facing today. The common problems that students face, such as burnout, stress, feeling overwhelmed, and inability to properly learn, will be solved. These issues being addressed helps improve one of the most important flaws within the school system, which is the inability to help each student with their own specific learning needs. Instead of the few suffering so the majority can learn, everyone should have their own equal opportunity to learn material suited for them.

Teachers are also victims of the current education system. A role responsible for teaching the next generation, that is constantly in demand, and is vital for future generations to learn and develop properly, are typically overworked and underpaid. The development of artificial intelligence systems can bring off the major load of problems that teachers currently face. Many teachers currently have to plan out a teaching schedule for each of their classes throughout the day, having to manage each one of the students individually, as well as every single thing they submit. This creates a difficult situation for many teachers, especially when it comes to grading large assignments or projects. The amount of time they have to dedicate to grading alone, requires them to work extremely hard outside of their own work time. Artificial intelligence can help solve this with more automatic grading and checking for a majority of assignments. Artificial intelligence also enables the automation of smaller roles that can eat up time for teachers, like creating review guides based on what the class currently needs to focus on. Teachers also cna focus much more of their time and effort improving the curriculum and planning what they teach, rather than having to focus on miscellaneous tasks, further improving the quality of their teaching. This also allows teachers to help focus on each student more effectively, as they can see what the artificial intelligence program is focusing on and the methods they use for each student. With proper implementation, artificial intelligence can improve the lives of teachers, the quality of education taught, and overall reduce the negative stigma put around the job.

The whole of society also seeks to gain massive improvements from the implementation of an artificial intelligence system into education. With students being much more prepared coming out of school, they are much more likely to be able to handle tasks much more efficiently and have a higher level of learning than they previously did. This helps improve the people coming into the workforce, and improves the quality of labor that comes from those people. It also enables many more people to go into different fields that they may have not been able to do previously. A lot of students are uninterested in many complex fields because of the requirements of certain subjects. With artificial intelligence properly implemented, this would be much less of a problem. The result of all of this would be more people going into fields that may be underemployed due to the difficulty of the requirements. Ultimately, the utilization of artificial intelligence in education helps improve the generations that are coming out of school, helping society function to a higher standard.

With how large of an impact artificial intelligence could have on the current education system, there are many concerns for how it may have a possible negative impact. One of the biggest concerns is that the implementation of artificial intelligence would replace teachers. This is not the case at all however, as a majority of the scientists working on artificial intelligence used in the classroom have agreed that it should be designed as a tool to help teachers, not a resource used to replace them. Teachers provide personality and uniqueness to the learning experience and environment, something that is essential and cant be provided by technology. Another concern is the requirements that are needed for a system to be put into place, which can be solved and aided with some government funding and action. Of course the initial cost of development would be expensive, however the result would be greatly beneficial to the future of society and would be well worth the cost. The final major concern would be the privatization of the artificial intelligence systems used for education purposes, pushing private schools to being the only option. However, the use of artificial intelligence inherently would balance out the education field compared to the current gap present, by providing current teachers with tools to handle a majority of the problems that those in private schools don't deal with. Overall, introducing artificial intelligence into the education system will result in large benefits with very little problems.

To conclude, the implementation of artificial intelligence into education will benefit students and teachers greatly, solving many of the current problems with the current system in place. It also will greatly improve the quality of society with the improved students coming out of schooling. The current research done involving artificial intelligence in education shows promising results. Efforts are being put towards trying to figure out the correct approach of utilizing artificial intelligence in education, with promising results coming from several different places around the world. Nevertheless, there is not enough effort being put into the development of the field currently. To see substantial progress, much more focus needs to be put towards the growth of artificial intelligence. If a more focused lens was put upon using artificial intelligence in education, there would be much greater success and improvements and many of the current drastic problems that plague the current generation in education would be solved. So the real issue that plagues artificial intelligence in education is less of how it will come out, but when it comes out.
