What makes a college invite the same speaker back the next year

A good talk gets a thank-you email. A talk that gets you invited back the following year did something more specific than 'go well' — something the organisers could point to afterward.

What usually earns the repeat invite

  • Students visibly did something after the session — shipped a project, joined a club, asked a follow-up question weeks later — and the organiser noticed.
  • The speaker followed up themselves: sent the promised resources, answered a late question, checked in once.
  • The speaker was easy to work with logistically — on time, prepared, flexible when the schedule slipped, as it often does at a fest.

The one habit that compounds this the most

Ask the coordinator, a few weeks after the session, whether anything came of it — a project, a club sign-up. It shows you care about outcomes beyond the hour, and it's exactly what measuring the impact of a campus session is about from the organiser's side.
