I made a simple screen-wide lightbar overlay for Linux

Just made this digital lightbar because i couldnt see my keyboard in dark - a configurable lightbar that sits on any edge of your screen.

screenshot of lightbar in action

What it does:

  • Creates a colored bar overlay on top, bottom, left, or right edge

  • Works over all windows (uses tkinter dock mode)

  • Customizable color (hex or named), size, and distance from edge

  • Triple-click to close, or use -k flag to kill it

Usage:

./lightbar.sh # White bar at bottom

./lightbar.sh -c "#FF0000" -p top -h 20 # Red bar at top

./lightbar.sh -c blue -p left -w 15 # Blue bar on left

Requirements: Just bash, python3, and tkinter (probably already installed).

Nothing fancy, but scratched an itch I had. Feedback welcome!
