Rebuilding OCR Studio as a private document workflow

OCR tools often make a simple job feel heavier than it should: hold the camera perfectly still, wait through a jittery live preview, upload a sensitive page, then fight the extracted text.

For PureHub beta 7, we rebuilt OCR Studio around a calmer document workflow.

What changed

• Camera-first capture instead of continuous live recognition
• Gallery import with rotation, crop and Document, Receipt or Note cleanup modes
• Multi-page scanning for related pages
• Editable recognized text with smart actions for links, email addresses and phone numbers
• TXT and searchable PDF export
• A searchable private library stored on the device
• English, Vietnamese and Simplified Chinese recognition

On Android, recognition runs on-device with ML Kit. Documents do not need to be sent to a PureHub server. The web version performs OCR in the browser after its language data is available.

Why the workflow matters

Accuracy is only part of OCR. People also need to review the result, preserve page context, find an earlier scan and move text into another tool. OCR Studio now treats those steps as one continuous task rather than a collection of disconnected buttons.

The Android release is also checked to remain offline-only. PureHub stays free, ad-free and open source.
