Title: How to Generate and Present PostgreSQL ERDs Directly on Your Phone in 2 Minutes
As developers and DBAs, we often need to quickly review database schemas, share entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs) with team members during a call, or project a clean diagram onto a screen for a presentation.
Instead of opening a desktop IDE or setting up complex web tools, here is how you can generate, inspect, and present PostgreSQL ERDs directly from your Android device in just a few taps.
Step-by-Step Guide: From Connection to ERD
1. Download & Install the Tool
First, install Postgres Client - Studio (Free on Google Play):
👉 Get Postgres Client - Studio on Google Play Store
2. Configure Your Database Connection
Open the app and configure your cloud or remote PostgreSQL database connection details (SSL and standard connections supported).
3. Navigate to "Draw ERD"
Select your active database connection and open the Draw ERD feature from the workspace menu.
4. Select Target Schema
Choose the schema you want to visualize from the dropdown list.
5. Select Your Tables
Pick the relevant tables you want to focus on (for optimal viewing, selecting up to 25 tables works best for clear layout and readability).
6. Automatic Dependency Resolution
The built-in engine automatically detects foreign keys and auto-includes linked tables required to make the ERD complete and structurally accurate.
7. View, Cast, or Print
- View and zoom into the interactive diagram directly on your phone.
- Stream/Cast your mobile screen to a larger display or projector for team presentations.
- Print or export as needed.
Bonus: Rendering engine credit
The visualization logic exports and processes rules compatible with the open-source JavaScript layout library [mermaid.js / viz.js]. Special thanks to the open-source community for maintaining these visualization frameworks!
Try It Out & Share Your Feedback
If you manage PostgreSQL databases on the go, try this workflow and let me know how it fits into your day-to-day work.
I'm actively improving the app based on developer feedback—feel free to drop a comment below with suggestions, feature requests, or questions!
