Amazon Q Developer Pricing: Why the $19/Month Pro Plan You're Reading About Doesn't Exist Anymore

According to DevTools Review's hands-on testing across 11 AI coding tools, one correction before the numbers: most breakdowns of Amazon Q Developer pricing — including our own page until this note — describe a Free tier plus a $19/user/month Pro plan you can sign up for today. You can't. AWS closed Amazon Q Developer to new Free and Pro signups on May 15, 2026.

What actually changed

AWS split the product. Existing Q Developer subscribers keep access, with end-of-support set for April 30, 2027. New individual signups are gone. AWS's named successor is Kiro, which also got its own escalation on August 4 with "Kiro Crew" — an autonomous multi-agent orchestrator that isn't available on Q Developer at all.

So the comparisons everyone still publishes — "Amazon Q Pro ($19/user/mo) vs. Copilot Business ($19/user/mo)," "Amazon Q vs. Cursor Pro" — are comparing a live product against one you can no longer buy.

Why this matters if you're choosing a tool right now

  • If you don't already have Amazon Q Developer: the plan sizing, the IP-indemnity-at-$19 pitch, the "undercuts Cursor" framing — none of it is actionable. You'd be evaluating a closed door.
  • If you already have it: you're on borrowed time to April 2027. Worth deciding now whether you migrate to Kiro or elsewhere rather than waiting for the deadline.
  • If you're on AWS and want the successor: Kiro is where AWS is putting new capability (Kiro Crew's multi-agent orchestration has no Q Developer equivalent), not Q Developer.

The actual current pricing tiers, verified

We re-checked this against AWS's own end-of-support announcement rather than repeating the old Free/$19 framing:

  • Existing Q Developer subscribers: Free and Pro ($19/user/month) continue working, supported through April 30, 2027
  • New signups: closed since May 15, 2026 — not available at any price
  • Kiro: AWS's named replacement for new individual and team adoption

We're not aware of a confirmed publisher-affiliate relationship for Amazon Q — AWS runs a partner network, not that kind of program — so there's no commission angle here, just a stale page we're correcting.
