We maintain a head-to-head comparison of Windsurf and GitHub Copilot. Checking it today before syndicating it, we found its entire "Pricing Verdict" section is built on a Windsurf price that stopped being true on 6 July 2026.
What the page says
The comparison's pricing section lists Windsurf Pro at $15/month and Windsurf Team at $30/user/month, then concludes: "At $10/month versus $15/month for the individual tier, Copilot is cheaper... For teams, Copilot Business at $19/user includes enterprise controls that Windsurf matches at $30/user."
What's actually true
Cognition (Windsurf's parent, now operating it as Devin Desktop after a June 2026 rebrand) raised Windsurf Pro from $15 to $20/month on 6 July 2026 — the same price as Cursor Pro. Teams is $40/user/month, plus an $80/month base fee — not a flat $30/user. We verified this against the site's own corrected Windsurf pricing page and an independent vendor check; both agree.
Why the direction of the error matters
This isn't just an outdated number — it flips the comparison's own logic:
- The page frames Copilot as "cheaper" by a $5/month gap that no longer exists. Windsurf Pro now costs double Copilot Pro ($20 vs. $10), not $5 more.
- The page says Windsurf "matches" Copilot's $19/user team pricing at $30/user. The real Windsurf Teams cost ($40/user + an $80/month base fee) is well above a match — for a 10-person team, that's $480/month versus Copilot Business's $190/month.
- Copilot itself has grown two tiers (Pro+ at $39/month, Max at $100/month) that this comparison's pricing table doesn't mention at all, so the "Copilot Pricing" side of the table is also incomplete, not just the Windsurf side.
The page's bottom-line recommendation ("Copilot is the better choice... cheaper... best value in the market") still holds directionally — Copilot remains cheaper at every tier it lists — but the actual gap is roughly four times larger than the page states, which matters if a reader is deciding whether $5/month is worth Windsurf's agentic workflow.
What we didn't touch
The feature comparison — Cascade's agent behavior on simple, medium, and complex tasks; the race condition we found in a webhook-delivery-tracking run; Copilot's more conservative, review-gated approach to the same tasks — is unaffected by this and wasn't part of what we checked today. This correction is specific to the pricing section.
The actual lesson
This is the second time this exact Windsurf price change ($15→$20, $30→$40+$80) has surfaced in our own content since the July rise — we already caught and fixed it on the standalone Windsurf review and pricing pages. It hadn't propagated to this comparison page yet, which is exactly the failure mode of maintaining the same fact in more than one place: fixing the "real" page doesn't fix the copies of it.
