Why I stopped trusting "free" online PDF tools
Ever uploaded a contract, a bank statement, or a medical report to a free online PDF tool?
I did. For years.
Then I realized something that changed how I think about every free online tool.
The hidden cost of "free"
Most online PDF tools are free. That's never been the problem.
The problem is why they're free.
Every time you upload a document to a random PDF website, your file is processed on servers you don't control. Owned by companies whose privacy policies nobody reads.
That legal contract you're compressing. That financial statement you're splitting. That medical report you're editing.
Uploaded. Processed. Stored. Sometimes indefinitely.
You're not paying with money. You're paying with your data.
What I wanted vs what exists
| Online PDF Tools | What I wanted |
|---|---|
| Files uploaded to third-party servers | Files never leave my machine |
| Privacy policies nobody reads | No policy needed |
| Stored indefinitely | Nothing stored, ever |
| Free with hidden costs | Free. Full stop. |
| Telemetry and tracking | Zero telemetry |
I couldn't find a single tool that checked all the boxes on the right.
So I built one.

The bottom line
Your files should never have to leave your machine.
That's not radical. That's how software used to work before the cloud convinced everyone to upload everything.
LocalPDF Studio just brings that back. For PDFs.
Try it. Audit it. Fork it. Share it.
