This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine
What I Built
Digital Ofrenda & Spirit Oracle, a web-based interactive altar designed to honor memory, heritage and the spooky spirit of the season. Inspired by Día de los Muertos and Halloween, the application allows users to build a digital altar dedicated to a historical pioneer, an ancestor or a forgotten piece of internet history. By placing virtual offerings like cempasúchil flowers, candles, and favorite foods on the altar, users can prompt an open-weight AI model to channel the spirit of the honoree and deliver a poetic remembrance or ghostly terminal transmission bridging the past and present.

How I Built It
The core of the application relies on open-weight AI models (such as Llama-3.2, Mistral-7B and Qwen 2.5). The architecture uses vanilla JavaScript, HTML5 and Tailwind CSS, requiring zero installation or heavy model runtimes on your machine.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Relying on closed, proprietary APIs risks locking you behind corporate platforms that might alter their terms or disappear entirely over time. With an open-weight approach, the underlying model logic remains fully inspectable and hackable. Users retain total control over their data, prompts and thematic customisation without vendor lock-in.
