I agree, but all that aside - if the extra time would yield better quality, more resolved edge cases or better UI experience - I would gladly accept it and even defend it, but this was just a horrible experience. Even more so if take into account that one day was lost simply on him "refusing" to format the code correctly or use better methods, etc.
Sure, you can use all the tools or git hooks you can find to mitigate the issue with the style of the code but this is more of a human problem than a technical problem.
