I Added a Notification Because I Didn't Know What Else to Build

The roadmap was getting thin.

Instead of accepting that, I found something to add.

Notifications.

It seemed harmless.

I built them into the prototype in Greta, created the settings, notification states, and a few different message types.

Then I realized nobody had asked for them.

Nobody needed them.

I had basically invented a problem because I was uncomfortable having an empty roadmap.

That was probably the most useful part of the exercise.

Sometimes an empty roadmap is actually good news.

It can mean the product doesn't need another feature right now.

It can mean the team should talk to customers.

Fix rough edges.

Improve reliability.

Or simply wait.

But “we don't know what to build next” can feel like failure, so teams start manufacturing work.

I've become much more comfortable leaving things alone now.

Not every week needs a launch.

Not every sprint needs a shiny feature.

Sometimes the smartest thing you can build is nothing.
