The billing decision that changes what the app is worth
A prompt generator is only a business if the subscription you built into it can
actually be collected. That is the whole game, and it is where most Android
side projects die quietly: the app works, the paywall does not.
Aura Pro is a complete working Android AI prompt-generation app, priced at
$299.99, and the buyer takes it over on their own Google Play Console with
their own API key. This post is about one specific technical decision inside it,
because it is the decision that decides whether the buyer can collect money at
all.
What was removed, and why
The earlier revision of this app shipped with Aptoide billing. It is gone.
The reason is simple: Aptoide billing ties the app's revenue to a store you do
not control, and the buyer of this app does not get a store. They get a Google
Play Console. A billing integration pointing at a store the buyer will never
publish to is a billing integration that never fires.
What replaced it
The app now integrates Google Play Billing Library 6.2.0 directly, with two
subscription products already declared:
com.auraprompt.app.premium_monthlycom.auraprompt.app.premium_annual
Both are monthly and annual premium tiers, wired through BillingClient. The
buyer creates the matching in-app and subscription products in their own Console
after takeover, and the app talks to them as normal.
The part that lets a buyer verify before paying
A paywall nobody can test is a paywall nobody buys. So the demo APK ships with
isDemo=true, which unlocks every premium feature — no paywall, no API key, no
charge. The buyer installs it, walks through all 11 intent categories (Build,
Write, Design, Learn, Marketing, Business, Personal, Finance, Legal, Debug,
Analysis), and confirms the UI and the generation output for themselves.
Only after takeover and payment does the buyer rebuild with isDemo=false to
switch on real billing. The demo is the sales pitch, and it is not a screenshot.
Takeover is one command
play_takeover.py --key key.json drives the Play Developer API for everything
the API allows: APK upload, store listing auto-filled from the app's own content,
store images, in-app products, subscription products, track activation, and
publish. Six Console steps remain manual — Data Safety, content rating,
category, pricing, review submission, and push notifications — and all six are
documented in the buyer READMEs.

Who this is for
Someone who wants a finished Android app with billing already wired, instead of
spending a month on a paywall that should have been done on day one. Test the
demo first. If the 11 categories generate what you need, the takeover takes one
command.
