Apple has announced that the original Developer ID Certification Authority (Sub-CA) is set to expire on February 1, 2027.
Key Actions for Developers:
- Check Expiration: Review certificates in Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles that expire on or before February 1, 2027.
- Renew: Generate new certificates using the Developer ID Certification Authority (G2). Note that while the G2 authority is valid until 2031, individual certificates issued under it require annual renewal.
- Xcode Requirements: If using Xcode 11.4 or earlier, update your environment before certificate generation.

Distribution Impact:
- .pkg files: Packages signed with the old Sub-CA will fail to install after the expiration date. Re-signing is mandatory.
- Mac Apps: Previously notarized apps with secure timestamps remain valid. Future updates must be signed with the new G2-based certificate.
