On February 6, 2026, Heroku’s leadership, headed by Nitin T. Bhat, declared a major strategic shift. The platform is now officially going into a "Sustaining Engineering Model." Sustaining engineering, in corporate buzzword language, means one thing: Maintenance Mode.
What’s Actually Changing?
If you’re currently using Heroku to power your apps, relax... your site won’t go down anytime soon. But the product roadmap is effectively going into stasis:
No New Features: That’s right, the entire focus is now stability, security, and "keeping the lights on."
No New Enterprise Customers: That means no more Enterprise Account contracts for new sign-ups through Salesforce.
Existing Customers: So if you’re already a subscriber via a credit card or existing Enterprise contract, you’re good to go, nothing changes for you.
The AI Pivot: That means the engineering resources will now be focused on Agentforce and enterprise-grade AI infrastructure.
