Why I Stopped Just "Building Websites" (And Started Building Traffic Machines) ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hello DEV Community!

When I first started as a Freelance Web Developer, my goal was simple: write clean code and build beautiful websites. But I quickly realized a harsh truth in the freelance world: A stunning website is completely useless if nobody can find it on Google.

That realization changed my entire career trajectory. I stopped being just a "WordPress Developer" and became a Web Developer & Technical SEO Expert.

Today, I want to share the 3 core pillars of my freelance business and how I combine development with search engine visibility.

๐Ÿ’ป Pillar 1: Custom, High-Performance WordPress

I don't just install heavy, bloated themes. I believe in performance-first development.

  • The Dev Side: I build custom front-ends or use extremely lightweight foundations. I minimize plugins by coding custom features directly into functions.php.
  • The SEO Impact: Faster load times mean passing Google's Core Web Vitals with flying colors, drastically improving rankings and user retention.

๐Ÿš€ Pillar 2: Technical SEO by Default

SEO isn't something you do after the site is built; itโ€™s part of the architecture.

  • The Dev Side: Writing strict, semantic HTML (<main>, <article>, proper H1-H6 flow) and injecting dynamic JSON-LD Schema markup.
  • The SEO Impact: Search engine bots can effortlessly crawl, understand, and index the site. Rich snippets start appearing in search results, boosting Click-Through Rates (CTR).

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Pillar 3: Audits & "Rescue" Operations

Many clients come to me with sites that look great but are dead in the water regarding traffic.

  • The Dev Side: I run deep technical audits using tools like Lighthouse and Screaming Frog. I clean up DOM sizes, optimize database bloat, and fix broken server responses.
  • The SEO Impact: A clean, error-free site signals reliability to Google, often resulting in a rapid recovery of lost rankings.

๐Ÿ’ก The Takeaway

As developers, we have a superpower. We control the actual DOM, the server requests, and the accessibility of the web. By learning Technical SEO, you don't just deliver code to your clientsโ€”you deliver a business asset that actually makes them money.

If you are a business owner looking for a developer who understands the big picture, or a fellow dev who wants to talk about web performance, let's connect!
