Spell Tutorial Outline – Mythical Archives
How to Cast a Simple Protection Spell: A Step-by-Step Ritual for Beginners
1. Understand the Purpose & Ethics of Spellcasting
Define the intention clearly – your spell must serve a specific, non-harmful goal (e.g., personal protection, emotional healing).
Review the Wiccan Rede or your tradition’s ethical code – avoid spells that manipulate others without consent.
Write down your intention in a single sentence; this will be the core of your spell.
2. Gather the Essential Tools & Ingredients
Basic altar items: a small candle (white for protection, black for banishing), a heatproof holder, matches or a lighter, and a fire-safe surface.
Correspondences: sea salt (purification), rosemary (protection), a clear quartz Crystals (amplify intent), and a small bowl of water.
Personal token: a piece of jewelry or a stone that you can wear or carry after the ritual (e.g., an obsidian pendant).
3. Prepare Your Space & Yourself
Cleanse the area: light incense (sage or palo santo) or sprinkle salt water while walking clockwise around the room, visualizing a white light barrier.
Ground and center: stand with feet flat, take 5 deep breaths, imagine roots growing from your feet into the earth, drawing up calm energy.
Cast a simple circle: use your finger or a wand to trace a circle around your workspace, invoking elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) if desired.
4. Raise Energy & Anchor the Intention
Light the candle, then hold your hands over the tools while channelling your intention – whisper your written sentence 3 times with conviction.
Use breath or humming to build a vibration – imagine the energy collecting in your hands as a glowing ball, then push it into the salt and crystal.
Place the personal token in the center of the salt pile and say: “I seal this protection around me. As I will, so mote it be.”
5. Perform the Core Ritual & Release the Energy
Hold the token (now charged) in your dominant hand; visualise a bubble of golden light expanding from it, surrounding your entire body.
Recite a simple chant or affirmation (e.g., “I am shielded from harm, in body and soul. This circle holds, this spell is whole.”) while rotating clockwise.
Snuff out the candle (do not blow) – this “seals” the spell. Thank any deities or elements you invoked, and open your circle by walking counterclockwise.
6. Ground the Remaining Energy & Close the Ritual
- Eat a small snack (e.g., a piece of fruit or bread) and drink water to return
