How Do I Get My Paid API Listed in the x402 Bazaar? You Can't Submit — You Settle

You can't submit your paid API to an x402 discovery index. We probed it — there is no endpoint for that.

On October 2, 2026, we surveyed about 20 x402 facilitators live. Only 4 ran a working discovery index:

• thirdweb — 33,352 resources
• Coinbase CDP Bazaar — 24,335 resources
• PayAI — 12,402 resources
• Ultravioleta DAO — 1,712 resources

No facilitator exposes a listing API. POST /discovery/resources returned 405/404 on both CDP and PayAI. A resource gets cataloged when a payment for it settles through that facilitator, carrying the bazaar discovery declaration — and each index is independent: settle through CDP and you are listed on CDP only. Nobody cross-posts you.

We re-probed tonight (October 14, 2026): CDP discovery and PayAI discovery both returned live resources — PayAI's newest entry was timestamped minutes before our probe. The bare PayAI /discovery path 404s; the index lives at /discovery/resources. Wrong-path queries are how "no index exists" myths start.

And the honest second half: listing is not demand. An independent crawl of the whole CDP index on October 13 counted 31,620 resources — and 77% of them had two payers or fewer in 30 days; 45.8% had exactly one, which is usually the seller's own listing-trigger test payment. (That crawl is another author's work, cited as corroboration — the counts above are ours.)

The sequence that actually works:

1. Declare discovery metadata in your 402 response.
2. Settle one real payment per facilitator whose index you want.
3. Verify the listing by querying that facilitator's /discovery/resources — per index, not once globally.
4. Track unique payers over 30 days, not presence. Presence is a side-effect; payers are distribution.

Discovery answers "what can an agent find?" It never answers "should the agent pay?" That prior question is the decision gate's job — score before signature (≥0.80 auto-pay, 0.50–0.79 confirm, <0.50 escalate), seal the decision as a receipt, then settle on whichever shelf the purchase belongs to.
