The decision matrix
If you're picking a cloud drive mount client in 2026, you have roughly six real options. Each has tradeoffs in price, performance, polish, and platform support. This article is the decision matrix.
The candidates
| Client | Lifetime | Yearly | Monthly | Platforms | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ScsDriver | $5.5 (was $9.99) | $5.5 | $1.5 | Windows, macOS | WebDAV + S3 + cache |
| Mountain Duck | n/a | ~$40 | n/a | Windows, macOS | Polished, multi-protocol |
| RaiDrive Pro | n/a | $40 | n/a | Windows | WebDAV/S3/Google/OneDrive/Dropbox |
| NetDrive 3 | $50-100 | n/a | n/a | Windows | Multi-protocol, old-school |
| Cyberduck | free | n/a | n/a | Windows, macOS | FTP/SFTP primary |
| WinSCP | free | n/a | n/a | Windows | SFTP/SCP primary |
For users in mainland China, ScsDriver is sold at CN ¥20 lifetime (separate pricing region).
What to look for
Cache layer
A local cache layer is the difference between a mount that feels local and one that feels like a network drive. ScsDriver has it. Mountain Duck has it. RaiDrive Pro has it. NetDrive has it.
Cyberduck and WinSCP are file-transfer tools, not mount clients — they don't have caches.
Locking
If you edit files locally, the mount needs to honor WebDAV locks. Otherwise two machines can clobber each other. ScsDriver, Mountain Duck, and NetDrive all handle this correctly. RaiDrive's locking is reportedly weaker.
Reconnect on sleep
Laptops sleep multiple times a day. The mount should re-establish without manual intervention. ScsDriver and Mountain Duck do this well. RaiDrive needs a manual reconnect sometimes.
Protocol coverage
- WebDAV: ScsDriver, Mountain Duck, RaiDrive, NetDrive
- S3: ScsDriver, Mountain Duck, RaiDrive
- Google Drive: RaiDrive, Mountain Duck, NetDrive
- OneDrive: RaiDrive, Mountain Duck, NetDrive
- Dropbox: RaiDrive, Mountain Duck, NetDrive
ScsDriver is WebDAV + S3 only. If you need Google Drive / OneDrive / Dropbox direct mount, ScsDriver isn't an option.
My decision matrix
| Your situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Need WebDAV / S3 only, want lifetime | ScsDriver ($5.5) |
| Need WebDAV / S3 + Google Drive, OK with subscription | RaiDrive Pro ($40/yr) or Mountain Duck ($40/yr) |
| Need only SFTP / SCP | Cyberduck or WinSCP (free) |
| Multi-protocol Windows user with budget | NetDrive 3 ($50-100) |
| Want polished UI, don't mind subscription | Mountain Duck ($40/yr) |
My personal pick
I've been on ScsDriver for two years. Reasons:
- $5.5 lifetime, no subscription
- WebDAV + S3 covers my needs (Nextcloud + MinIO)
- Local cache makes editing feel native
- Cross-platform (Windows + macOS)
- Drive letter integration works in every app
If I needed Google Drive direct mount, I'd switch to Mountain Duck. But I don't.
Pricing recap (overseas, ScsDriver)
- $1.5 monthly
- $5.5 yearly
- $5.5 lifetime (was $9.99)
For users in mainland China, the package is sold at CN ¥20 lifetime (separate pricing region).
Verdict
For 80% of self-hosters and indie creators, ScsDriver at $5.5 lifetime is the right answer. The $34.50/year saved (vs Mountain Duck) compounds over time. The feature gap is zero for WebDAV / S3 use cases.
If you need Google Drive / OneDrive / Dropbox direct mount, the answer is RaiDrive Pro or Mountain Duck, both at $40/year. There's no lifetime option for those protocols yet.
